Second place is never easy. Especially for Shaun White. But Oakley’s Star Snowboarder/Skateboard Vert standout still had one heck of a year on the Dew Tour – ending with the runner-up spot in Las Vegas this past week behind Pierre-Luc Gagnon. Gold Medals can’t evade Shaun White for too long. Oakley’s multi-sport superstar, fresh off yet another Superpipe Gold at Winter X, finally reclaimed the elusive Skateboard Vert Gold on Saturday – snatching the victory from the three-year grasp of Pierre-Luc Gagnon. But this one was far from being over…until the very last second. Incredible drama unfolded as the Final heat smashed into action – with the two favorites battling head to head. Shaun’s early run – racking up a solid 89.33 – was quickly clipped by a few huge runs from PLG, who quickly claimed the lead and held it for most of the session. It seemed insurmountable for many of the global fans watching the action on the broadcast and the nervous bunch on hand at Nokia Center. Then again, when is it ever a good idea to doubt Shaun White?
