Shaun White is now a bona fide household name. This Oakley Team Superstar and Olympic Gold Medalist has truly rocketed to insane heights and recognition this past year. Transcending his sport, he’s not only one of the best Skate and Snowboard athletes on the Planet, he’s a Global Ambassador for his sport, the center of his own awesome video game and a natural in the bright lights, red carpets and glamour that is the entertainment industry (and the “Chairman of the Board” of Spike TV’s 2010 Guy’s Choice Awards to boot). But let’s get back to the core of it all. He is where he is because of one indisputable fact: Shaun White is just a ridiculously sick athlete. Throwing down huge, revolutionary new maneuvers not seen in his two sports during contests, he dazzled sports fans everywhere while racking up medals left and right this year.
They’re known as legends in the sport. But now it’s official. Oakley Skate Team Superstars Bob Burnquist and Erik Koston (past) were inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame on Dec. 4 – joining a truly iconic group of inductees that included the likes of Dogtown legends Steve Caballero and Stacy Peralta. The vibrant ceremony went down at the Cooper Building in Los Angeles – complete with food, music, live auctions and the industry’s biggest and brightest personalities. All to honor some of the skaters that helped shape the sport into what it is today.
When you’re a skateboard legend, people pay attention. That’s why Oakley’s Bob Burnquist is using the spotlight to show his fans and the public that it’s literally cool to go green. With a pile of X Games medals amongst other accolades throughout his storied career – he’s still shredding, hard-core. Owning the youngsters at X Games 16 this past Summer and still killing it on the Dew Tour, this action sports legend is still doing it all…eco-friendly style. NBC in Los Angeles got a first-hand glimpse of it all – as they paid Bob a visit at his Vista, Calif. home. From his Oakley branded Megaramp to his first bamboo competition board to his signature series Oakley Gascans (made of recycled shades) – Bob gives the public a rundown on his environmentally conscious lifestyle.
