The Ordinary Skier Premiers in Seattle, Vancouver

Oakley and 1242 Productions’ The Ordinary Skier premiered in Seattle and Vancouver last weekend, officially kicking off premiere season in the ski world, and living up to the hype surrounding the highly anticipated documentary on Seth Morrison for the past two years.

On Friday, September 9th, The Ordinary Skier himself, Seth Morrison, along with Oakley skiers Sammy Carlson, Simon Dumont, Sean Pettit, JP Auclair treated Seattle fans to a poster signing at evo’s headquarters and Seattle store prior to the show.

That evening, an oversold crowd filled the King Cat Theater in downtown Seattle to catch the first viewing of The Ordinary Skier, along with the premiere of Poor Boyz Productions’ Grand Bizarre.

The premiere happened to coincide with one of the hottest days of the Seattle summer. And this was shockingly clear once the endless line of moviegoers packed inside.

After intros by Director CP and Oakley’s Matty Swanson, Morrison brought the film’s cast to the stage, including Kye Petersen, Dave Rosenbarger, Nathan Wallace, Sean Pettit and JP Auclair.

As the movie played, conditions inside the theater worsened. The temperature and humidity were something out of equatorial Africa. The bar ran out of beer, the projector sputtered, people went shirtless… the scene was apocalyptic.

But people stayed, captivated by the intensity of the action footage, the quality of the production, the insightful interviews, the dramatic history—all of which was exaggerated by the film’s original score.

As Freeskier magazine photo editor Shay Williams said, “It has an intangible quality… It delves deep into the soul of what drives Seth and offers a unique angle the skiing lifestyle; its dangers and its rewards, its sacrifices and its triumphs.”

The following night, The Ordinary Skier made its international premiere in downtown Vancouver at District 319. The red-carpet affair went off without a hitch thanks to Oakley Canada, who ensured the AC was cranked and the beer was cold. A VIP group of industry friends relaxed in the intimate theater in red leather armchairs and munched on fresh popcorn while they took in the best ski documentary ever made.

Post-film, guests, including skier cross athletes Ashleigh McIvor, Julia McMurray and Davey Barr, big mountain skier Ian McIntosh, halfpipe skier Justin Dorey and photographer Blake Jorgenson mingled on-site.
