Vattenfall Cyclassics | Hamburg, Germany | 23. - 25. August 2013
The Vattenfall Cyclassics in Hamburg has become one of the biggest road races in Europe for pros and amateurs alike, and a classic for seeing some of the big stars of the Tour de France and the German cycling elite up close and in person. From 23rd to 25th of August, the sold-out event took place for the 18th time. Approximately 22,000 amateurs kicked into the pedals before the pros had their UCI World Tour Race – which is, by the way, Germany’s only pro race at the highest World Tour level.
In close cooperation with the organizers, we participated with both our O-Container and our O-Store to present our rich cycling history to a mind-boggling mass of no less than 800,000 enthusiastic spectators! What a day – with clear blue skies and all traffic blocked for the race, in some of Hamburg’s most stunning neighbourhoods and downtown itself, people enjoyed a day out walking, biking, or simply experiencing the car-free world and exciting races.
While Mark Cavendish was unfortunately not with us in person, we presented a little informative exhibit about him and his Performance Sport Lenses. Spectators and amateurs alike came to visit and loved the show – our O-Store proudly reported its biggest sales since opening its doors!
After an intense race along the Alster, crossing bridges and climbing hills through Hamburg, Schleswig Holstein and Niedersachsen, John Degenkolb became the first German since Erik Zabel in 2001 to win the 200 km race, beating André Greipel (GER) and Alexander Kristoff (NOR) in a bunch finish. Will you participate next year?
