Ownage: Team Oakley Dominates Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge Weekend in South Africa

How do you define ‘Ownage?’ We can start with Oakley Team Athletes dominating every race at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge in Johannesburg, South Africa, this past weekend.

And we mean full domination. The Men’s Road Race, Women’s Road Race/MTB Race and the Men’s MTB Race were all swept by Oakley Racers at the spirited event.

Nic White capped off his professional cycling career with a breakaway win in the event’s Men’s Road Race. White, who emerged victorious at the inaugural event in 1997, clocked 2:15.06 to win by 39 seconds ahead of teammates Arran Brown and Malcolm Lange.

“This was simply unbelievable,” White said after the race, rocking his Oakey Jawbones. “I usually ride for the others in the team, but today at three kilometres to go, I relaxed and went for it. It is a great way to end my pro career.”

Cherise Taylor became the first female cyclist to triumoh at both the road and mountain bike events that form part of the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge weekend.

Grabbing the Cycle Challenge Title is a big feat in Taylor’s career.

“I have been trying to win it for such a long time, but in each of the previous races I botched things at a crucial moment,” Cherise said, sporting her Oakley Enduring shades. “Today, in the final few kilometres, it all boiled down to perfect timing. Fortunately, for a change, I managed to do everything right.”

Zipping off the road and into the dirt for the Men’s Mountain Bike Race: Xterra World Champion Conrad Stoltz arrived at the starting line awesome shape and ready to challenge defending champion Burry Stander for the top spot. Conrad and Burry pulled away from the pack and before Conrad punctured his tire. The good teammate that he is, Burry assisted Conrad with a tire plug and CO2. The result: Conrad got back into the race and attacked Burry on a downhill to ride to victory. A dramatic turn of events for a grand victory.
