Oakley's Filippo Pozzato Wins Stage 12 Of The Giro d' Italia

Oakley’s Filippo Pozzato of Italy timed his sprint perfectly and won stage 12 at the Giro d’ Italia last Thursday. Pozzato’s win is the first Italian victory in this year’s Giro d’Italia. Oakley’s Richie Porte kept his lead and the leader’s pink jersey in the general classification.

Pozzato was the fastest in a small group of ten that finished seconds ahead of the pack. He beat Frenchmen Thomas Voeckler in a close dual at the finish.

“I’m very happy, it’s what we needed. We had to have a stage like this after yesterday,” Pozzato told reporters. “The last week will be spectacular and it won’t be over till it’s over.”

Stage 12 was a relatively flat stage of 206 kilometer from Città Sant’Angelo to Porto Recanati on central Italy’s east coast. After days of terrible weather, the riders finally were able to race in good weather.

The three-week race ends in Verona on May 30.
