Oakley's Christopher Horner Wins 50th Tour of The Basque Country
Oakley’s Christopher Horner stunned Spanish ace Alejandro Valverde to take the 50th Tour of the Basque Country on Saturday.
The 38-year-old won the sixth and final stage, a 22-kilometer time trial in the town of Orio, in a time of 32 minutes and 33 seconds, eight seconds faster than Oakley’s Valverde.
For Horner, who rides for the Radio Shack team that also includes his compatriot Lance Armstrong, it was the best win outside of the US in his professional career, which began in 1995.
Spain’s Benat Intxausti, a Basque, was third overall, 58 seconds behind Horner.Valverde, who won the Tour of Spain last year, also finished second behind compatriot Alberto Contador in the Paris-Nice race last month.
