In front of a home crowd, Belgian Oakley cyclist Tom Boonen held off a duo of Italian riders to claim the 2012 Tour of Flanders victory. Boonen tied a record for total victories at the Belgian event, winning his third Tour of Flanders title. Following up on wins in 2005 and 2006, Boonen joined elite company all while wearing the soon to debut Oakley RadarLock sunglasses. This was the first cycling victory by any athlete wearing the highly anticipated performance glass.
Spanning eight days and covering 155.5 kilometers, the 70th edition of the Paris-Nice was no walk (or ride) in the park. Oakley rider Bradley Wiggins found this out first hand, narrowly riding away with the overall victory by a margin of just eight seconds. The 31-year-old Bradley outlasted his Dutch rival, Lieuwe Westra, in the final and decisive mountain time trial stage, finishing just two seconds ahead, securing the overall title for the first time in his career.
The picturesque Italian countryside is where the Big Classic Cycling Season kicks into gear. And if this year’s start at San Remo is any sign of things to come, Team Oakley is poised for year another epic season. Cycling stars Simon Gerrans and Fabian Cancellara were the tip of the charge, taking the first and second position at Milano San Remo this past weekend in the first-ever road race to see the brand new Oakley Radar Lock performance eyewear piece in action.
