The Colombian made the switch from Caisse d’Epargne at the end of 2010 and began his campaign strongly with top-five finishes at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Volta a Catalunya. He then enjoyed a late-season flurry by claiming podium positions at both the GP de Quebec and Giro dell’Emilia.
It was at the Tour de France though where Urán really came of age, and a superb climbing display on a mountainous 14th stage saw him finish in fifth place on the day and move top of the young riders’ classification.
In his five seasons as a professional, Urán has only tasted success once, on stage seven at the 2007 Tour de Suisse for the Unibet.com team, but has come close on several other occasions.
Perhaps the highest-profile of those was his third-place at the 2008 Giro di Lombardia and Rigoberto is determined to add to that winning tally.
