Oakley’s Michael Rogers successfully fended off some dangerous attacks in the final day’s racing of the Tour of Andalusia to clinch the overall victory. A long break, including overcoming overall threat Angel Vicioso of Spain, was only caught 20 kilometers from the finish line. Chasing down the move was made difficult because three HTC-Columbia riders, Konstantsin Sivtsov, Michael Albasini and Hayden Roulston, all crashed mid-stage. Rogers was delighted with his first stage race win since 2003, saying “It was a pretty tough day but the team were super and we never panicked.”
Oakley’s Edvald Boasson Hagen defied strong winds to take the yellow jersey on the opening day of the Tour of Qatar as his Sky Team won Sunday’s 8.2 kilometre team time trial. The 22-year-old rider crossed the finish line in a time of nine minutes, 41 seconds. Boasson Hagen’s Spanish team mate Juan Antonio Flecha won the silver jersey while Britain’s Geraint Thomas, also of Sky, was the fastest young rider.
