JOURNEYMEN: Oakley’s Newest One Icon Multimedia Feature
Oakley has released it’s newest One Icon multimedia feature, entitled JOURNEYMEN. The Journeymen story chronicles the three very different experiences of three very different riders through the grueling eight-day, 718km mountain bike race, The Absa Cape Epic.
The Absa Cape Epic takes place in South Africa’s Western Cape and is dubbed “The Untamed African MTB Race.” The race takes 1200 riders though a brutal eight-consecutive-day journey, including treacherous climbs, river crossings, dusty farm roads and fast single track riding. The field includes professional riders competing for vital UCI Mountain Bike standings points along with amateurs competing for personal pride while just trying to make it to the finish.
Three-time UCI Cross Country Mountain Bike World Champion, Nino Schurter, Former Springbok Rugby Captain, John Smit and Oakley/Red Bull Photographer, Craig Kolesky make up the three main characters of the JOURNEYMEN story.
Life lessons were learned out on the South African hillsides about facing your fears and never giving up. The three Journeymen fought a long, tough battle during the Absa Cape Epic; they sweat, they bled, they laughed and they cried, but in the end, the payoff came knowing that they had survived and that they were better people for it.
The 2014 Absa Cape Epic is now complete, but the stories and memories for these three Journeymen will live on forever.
