Chinese skeet shooter Wei Ning had some stiff competition in London. While American Kim Rhodes got the best of her, a second place finish is quite an accomplishment in itself. To compliment her performance, the only woman above her, did so by matching a world record along the way. Wei Ning secured a second place prize for her home country of China.

With thunder and lightning looming around the Royal Artillery Barracks in south east London, Wei Ning and the other women were happy to get competition underway. Once competition began, she scored 91 points on the day and was only beaten by Rhode’s world record 99 points. She finished one point ahead of third place finisher Danka Bartekova of Slovakia.

Wei’s performance followed two impressive first place finishes in the 10m air rifle and air pistol events by fellow Chinese athletes earlier in the week.

The second place finisher was thrilled with her performance, but even more impressed by the American’s record setting day.

“I do not know her well but I like her style. I have a lot of respect for her and I think she is amazing,” the Chinese shooter said.
