Oakley’s Sam Stosur Wins Opening Round On Philippe Chatrier
2010 French Open Women’s Singles Finalist, Sam Stosur returned to centre court once again to kick-off the tournament as match number one of the second grand slam in 2011. Under near perfect conditions Stosur entered Philippe Chatrier on a mission and accomplished it in just over an hour, by spanking Iveta Benesova 6-2, 6-3.
Benesova came out firing with a quick break in game one, but that lead to a solid run of four straight games going to Stosur who took set one with ease. Stosur’s serve, one of the best in the game took hold of the set and lead to a solid start of set two, where Sam closed out the match with a single break.
Australia’s Sam Stosur’s next opponent will be Romania’s Simona Halep, who took down Alia Kudryavtseva 6-2, 6-1. Halep and Stosur faced off last year in the first round with Sam taking the win, look for this match to be a little bit closer with the same outcome.
