Battle on the Bayou: Dean Rojas Claims BASS Tournament in Louisiana

Dean - Toledo Bend 2011 3

Oakley’s prominence in BASS fishing continues…big time.

Exhibit O: The intense “Battle on the Bayou” BASS Tournament near Many, Louisiana, where Oakley Pro Bass Team Angler Dean Rojas emerged with a win after four days of competition on a 186,000-acre reservoir.

Rojas’ five fish limit per day of 70 lbs 15 ounces edged fellow Oakley Team Angler Gerald Swindle by a mere 1 ounce.

Dean posted wire-to-wire wins on the final Sunday – securing him his fourth overall Bassmaster career victory: With one coming in 2008 on Toledo Bend Reservoir.

The successful outing also scored him an automatic bid into the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. Additionally, Dean jumped 23 spots in the all-important Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year points race, also a road into the postseason.

“I’m going to the Classic; this is so huge,” Rojas said, rocking his Shadow Camo w/Grey Polarized Oil Rig eyewear. “Everything about the win I love: the trophy, the check, the points, the Classic and winning a tournament in 2011.”

Oakley’s Angler also noted that he found success by sight fishing, which meant he relied on his polarized lenses to see the fish.

Swindle, the runner up finisher, congratulated his teammate after the contest.

“I wasn’t out to beat Dean, I was out to compete against Toledo Bend and fish to the best of my ability,” he said – rocking his custom Flak Jacket XLJ with bronze polarized lenses. “The competition is the fish – and most of the time you are your own enemy if you beat yourself up or get too bent out of shape. I could sit here and write a book about all the big ones that jumped off during this tournament. You have to say, ‘It was meant for Dean Rojas to win’ because I put 110 percent heart and soul into this and I didn’t make any stupid mistakes.”

Congratulations to both Dean and Gerald (who also secured a 2012 Classic seat by winning a Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open earlier in the season) on a great showing in Louisiana!
