Back to Back: Bryan Brothers Triumph at Monte-Carlo Masters, Tally 70 Team Titles

The Bryan Brothers may not be unbeatable. But they’re pretty damn close.

Oakley’s long-time star Tennis twins emerged with another victory at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters Tournament in Monaco, topping Juan Ignacio Chela and Bruno Soares, 6-3, 6-2. Hot on the heels of another clay victory in Houston last week (River Oaks Country Club), this win marked their 70th Team Title – with 18 coming at the ATP World Masters 1000 level. The dynamic duo is now tied for second on the all-time list with Todd Woolbridge.

“It feels great to win title No. 70, but even better to beat an experienced clay-court team in one of our favorite tournaments of the year,” Bob Bryan said, rocking his Oakley Gearbox Watch and visibly stoked on winning his team’s fourth final at the Monte-Carlo Country Club. “Thanks to Prince Albert for staying to watch the doubles final, we really appreciate it.”

“We’re very happy to play so well in Monte-Carlo; it’s been a while since we’ve won here,” Mike Bryan added. “We’re feeling really good on the clay and we’re looking forward to the rest of the clay-court season.”

The result delivered the Bryans’ third tour-level title of the season and their second in just a couple of weeks.

Chela and Soares, who upset two seeded teams en route to the final, came out of the gates on fire, breaking to lead 2-1. But it wouldn’t last long, as the Bryans quickly leveled and broke serve again in the seventh game to take a one-set lead.

Riding their wave of momentum, the Bryans swiftly opened up a 2-0 lead in the second set and went on to close out victory on Mike Bryan’s serve, after saving three break points, in 54 minutes.

“There were a lot of crazy points out there,” Bob said, also in his Gearbox watch. “I think the fans had a good time because there were a lot of contrast of styles – baseline points, big serves, drop volleys. I just felt like we were having fun and when we’re having fun we play our best tennis."

Congratulations to the Bryan Brothers for yet another resounding victory and another huge milestone!
