Calling All Anglers: The Oakley Big Bass Tour is Underway
Now in it’s second year, Oakley’s amateur Big Bass fishing series provides anglers of all skill levels the opportunity to experience some of the nation’s best bass fisheries with events at Lake Conroe, Table Rock, Lake Norman, Smith Mountain, Sam Rayburn and Lake Guntersville.
For the first time in Oakley Big Bass Tour history, North America’s only 24/7 fishing lifestyle network, WFN, will present first-time coverage of the 2011 tour. Coverage will consist of a seven episode series featuring a 30-minute highlight show for each event as well as a “Best Of” show recapping the season.
Taking viewers from stop to stop will be former host of the FLW Tour, Carlton Wing, who will be joined by guest Oakley athletes including Kevin VanDam, Jamie McMurray, Kelly Jordon and Gerald Swindle. Be sure to check your local listings and tune in as, in addition to expert commentary the athletes will also be offering instructional tips on how viewers can land the “big one,” for themselves.
“We are thrilled to add the Oakley Big Bass Tour to our programming line-up,” said Corey Russell, Vice President of Programming for WFN. “Viewers will be captivated by this unique tournament…we are excited to be the first network to air [it].”
The opening event, the Lake Conroe Big Bass Classic (March 5-6), kicked-off with a competitive field of over 600 anglers who weathered rain, wind and bone chilling cold in search of the contest’s largest bass. Harry Durham, who held the lead at the close of day one with a 9.51 lb. bass, was quickly outdone on day two by Josh Ward from Montgomery Texas who caught a 9.98 lb. monster for the win and the $25,000 Nitro Z7 grand prize.
The next stop on the 2011 Oakley Big Bass Tour schedule is the Kevin VanDam Big Bass Classic at Table Rock Lake from March 26 – 27. Pre-registration numbers are at an all time high and the event, hosted by the man who just won a record fourth Bassmaster Classic Title, promises to be a good one. Not convinced see what KVD has to say about it:
