Emotional Sweep! James “Bubba” Stewart Claims Supercross-St. Louis Victory, Dungey and Villopoto Round Out Podium

It doesn’t get much more dramatic than this, folks.

Oakley’s Motocross Superstar James “Bubba” Stewart literally shed tears of joy following his resounding victory at Supercross in St. Louis this past weekend – topping an Oakley-packed podium with fellow O riders Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto rounding out the winner’s group.

The joyful weeping came as Bubba tasted the fruit of victory for the first time since Anaheim II – and on the heels of some super dramatic races where gnarly crashes, in-race collisions and vicious battles dominated the scenery for the industry veteran.

No surprise, but the points battle was as heated as ever this time in St. Louis. Ivan Tedesco flung out of the gates to grab the holeshot in the Main Event, but with the series’ top riders hungry and focused on the task at hand (pushing forward in the standings), it wouldn’t last long. After just a lap, Bubba powered his way to the front like a screaming bat out of heck, followed by Dungey and Bubba’s alleged rival Chad Reed a lap after.

The front three would hold their positions until mid race, when Villopoto would mash his way past Reed after the Aussie was tripped up by a rogue Tuf Block. And it was all smooth cruisin’ from there for Oakley’s biggest stars on the dirt.

“I didn’t care about anything else, I just wanted to win and show my team that I’m still here. I’m still trying and I still have it,” said an intensely emotional Bubba – who is attempting to claw his way back into the top of the Championship Standings. He’s currently holding at fourth after St. Louis (back 16 points), while Villopoto continues to command the top spot – followed closely by Dungey.

The compelling drama and intensity this season isn’t cooling off one bit – just the way we like it. Don’t blink as Oakley’s courageous group of stars continue to fight for Supercross Glory moving toward the Finals in Las Vegas (May 7).
