It’s one thing to have a teen phenom absolutely dominate his rivals in his sport. But to have one with such a sense of humility as he charges into the annals of Motocross history…is all the more impressive. “It is an amazing feeling, but maybe only when I’m older I’ll realize what I have accomplished,” said Jeffrey Herlings – shortly after wrapping up his 14th World Motocross Grand Prix victory on the season and his second consecutive MX2 World Title. At a mere 18 years old, Oakley’s Dutch rider has tallied an astonishing 30th career GP victory on top of his taking the MX2 crown with three races to go. Not to mention his perfect record through all rounds thus far.

To say that the Red Bull KTM Team recognized Jeffrey Herlings’ potential from the time he barely hit puberty, wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration. He’s been on the program since the moment he was old enough to qualify for the Motocross World Championship. So it was only fitting that just as the Dutch teen motocross phenom claimed his 10th Motocross Grand Prix victory (out of 10) in Sweden, KTM announced a two-year extension of his contract with the team.

The defending AMA Motocross Champion is looking to take the reigns. With a lukewarm start to the Outdoor season thus far, Ryan Dungey hasn’t broken through the proverbial barrier on his campaign to defend the title. Until now, that is. More than 20,000 fans braved the Tennessee heat to see Red Bull-KTM’s star take the overall victory at Muddy Creek – topping fellow Oakley star Ryan Villopoto with an impressive win in the second Moto.
