With an impressive showing at Glen Helen Raceway on the opening weekend of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship season, Ryan Dungey sits atop the early ratings. After finishing third in the first 450cc moto, Dungey made a thrilling pass on Ken Roczen just a few turns from the finish in moto two, helping to secure the overall win over a stacked field.
Ryan Villopoto locks up his fourth consecutive 450SX Class Championship with a win in New Jersey to become just the second rider in the sport’s 40-year history, along side Jeremy McGrath, to win four consecutive championships. Heading into the inaugural race at MetLife Stadium, Villopoto only needed to finish 18th or better in the main event to clinch the championship, but that did not stop him from going wire-to-wire to not only claim the title, but also his sixth victory of the season and 40th career SX450 class win. After collecting the holeshot at the start of the main event, Villopoto held off Josh Hill, who ran second for the first four laps of the race until Eli Tomac eventually passed Hill. The two Team Oakley riders went head-to-head for the remaining laps, but in the end Tomac could not overtake the champion. Ryan Villopoto won his second straight victory and fifth of the AMA Supercross season in front of his hometown fans in Seattle, Washington on Saturday night. He was joined on the podium by fellow team Oakley riders James Stewart and Ryan Dungey respectively.
