RC Breaks Another Record As He Sweeps Steel City

Oakley star Ricky Carmichael swept the Steel City National held at Steel City Raceway near Delmont, Pennsylvania this weekend. RC captured his ninth win of the season in the Motocross division with a perfect 1-1 performance on the muddy and rutted course wearing his signature Oakley MX O-FRAME® goggles. Oakley’s other superstar James "Bubba" Stewart turned in a solid 2-2 performance using his CROWBAR® MX signature goggle designed by Bubba on the tricky rutted out track, for a second overall on the day. The day went pretty smooth as RC grabbed the holeshot in the first moto and never looked back on his way to another victory. Bubba got off to a six-place start and had to work his way up to finish second in the first moto. Moto two was a different story as Bubba grabbed the hole shot and was riding conservative. RC started to close the gap a bit and Bubba’s conservative style caused him to lose the front end, in a slick muddy turn and he hit the soil. By the time he remounted RC had cruised by and went on to take another victory. Bubba remounted and finished a respectful second for a second overall on the day.

Carmichael, who clinched his 10th AMA Motocross Championship at the last round in New York, made it look easy on a track that had been soaked the previous day by outer bands of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The win was RC’s 70th AMA Motocross overall win – another AMA record.

"It’s been amazing and I appreciate everything that’s happened in my career," said Carmichael, who made his professional debut at Steel City Raceway in 1996. "I’ve been so busy throughout out my career and pulled at all angles, but now I can look back and really enjoy what I’ve accomplished."

In addition to the race win, RC also clinched the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross top prize of $30,000 and a Kawasaki KLX110, for claiming the overall wins at the High Point, Red Bud, and Steel City rounds.
