James “Bubba” Stewart has had a tumultuous past couple years. Oakley’s Motocross Superstar and former Supercross/AMA Motocross Champion, fighting through injuries in 2010 and an erratic 2011, shot back at doubters yet again – claiming Supercross Oakland for his first triumph with his new team, Joe Gibbs Racing. Joining fellow Oakley Team stars Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey, who both have tallied a win thus far early in the season, Bubba sent a clear message that he’s in it to win it this season. Rival Chad Reed held the advantage early on in the race. Until Lap 9, that is. In signature fashion, he powered past Reed and charged his way to victory with no one in sight.

Ryan Villopoto picked up right where he left off…on fire. Oakley’s defending Supercross Champion (and AMA Motocross Champ) dominated the 2012 Supercross opener at Angel’s Stadium of Anaheim on Saturday, pulling away from the pack after grabbing the Holeshot to cruise onto a smooth victory in front of Chad Reed and fellow Oakley star Ryan Dungey. The impressive triumph topped off a brilliant evening that saw Oakley-backed Troy Lee Racing claim its own win in the Lite’s Main Event after Cole Seely raged back from behind to claim glory.

2011 was nothing short of absolutely epic in Supercross. In one of the closest, most hotly contested, sheer battles in the sport’s illustrious history, the field’s most prominent riders throttled into stadium after stadium, head-to-head in the standings…fighting for every advantage until the explosive finale in Las Vegas. And of course, Oakley emerged as the Champion yet again – continuing its deep roots and heritage in motocross. Taking out 2010 rookie Champion and fellow Oakley Star Ryan Dungey (RD), Ryan Villopoto (RV) rocketed to the Title, closing out a three-way dogfight going into Vegas with RD and Chad Reed. And with that, a season filled with drama, intrigue and insane story lines came to a close. 2012 will be no less tantalizing.
