"Local Boy" Oakley Star James Stewart Dominates in Hometown

Oakley’s James "Bubba" Stewart won his sixth Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series in front of 43,081 fans at the Citrus Bowl. Stewart, a Haines City, Fla. native, was racing only 30 minutes from his house.

Bubba also won the $1,500 Holeshot Award with teammate Oakley’s Michael Byrne in second and Oakley’s Ricky Carmichael in third. RC made his move past Byrne to move into second on lap 1. Bubba’s pace was just too quick as he pulled out a 14 second lead at one point and then coasted the remainder of the race till the checkered flew. RC rode a smart race and extended his points lead over Chad Reed for the overall Championship.

"It has been a good day, all day," said James. "I felt very comfortable on the track today and wanted to win for Polk County where I live. I am the local boy at Orlando so I wanted to win for the fans. I had a scary crash last week in Daytona but put it back together for this week. I am going to keep my head down and see what happens the rest of the season."

In the Supercross Lites class, it was pretty uneventful. Oakley’s Davi Millsaps cruised around in second. Davi didn’t want to get up and mix it with the leader Josh Grant as the two have had many run-ins this year. Grant has proven that he doesn’t care that Davi is on the same team, so Millsap’s didn’t want to take any chances that would jeopardize his point’s lead with two races remaining in the East Coast Lites series.
