Rain or Shine Same Results, Oakley on Top

Oakley’s James Stewart won a mud fest in Saturday night’s Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross race before a crowd of 37,557 at SBC Park in San Francisco.

Nick Wey paddled his Honda through the mud to earn the Toyota Holeshot Award at the start of the reduced 12-lap AMA Supercross Main event. Though, Nick soon surrendered the lead to Oakley’s Stewart by the end of the first lap. Oakley team mate Ricky Carmichael was a couple spots back in third. The track was so bad it was mainly a survival race in which everyone rolled almost every obstacle on the wet muddy track.

Bubba lead Carmichael for eight laps before a sweet pass by Carmichael on lap nine that put him into the lead. Carmichael’s lead did not last long as Bubba regrouped and got back into the lead on the next lap. From there Stewart never looked back and won his fourth main event of the season. Carmichael finished second, Wey held on to finish third and Oakley pilot Michael Byrne finished Fourth.

“The first few laps I was in my own world (and was thinking) I just wanted to finish,” said Stewart the Oakley superstar. “I made a few mistakes, but I think it was just more the track than me making mistakes. I knew (RC) was behind me. I could hear the crowd going crazy and I didn’t know if he had crashed or if he was right up on me. He passed me after I cased it in the rhythm section. When he got in front of me, I was thinking, ‘this is kind of over.’ Then I caught back up to him and ended up making it happen from there.”
