Oakley's young prospect Davi Millsaps prevails in the SX Lites division
Oakley’s Ricky Carmichael posting his first DNF (Did Not Finish) in the last 5 years when a shock spring on his motorcycle snapped in half and left him with 20th place. Fellow Oakley teammate Bubba Stewart challenged for the lead but hit a tough block and went down. Once Bubba got his bike fired back up he found himself almost two laps down. He did manage to salvage a few points as he finished in a disappointing 17th position. Chad Reed used these gifts from Bubba and Ricky to his advantage as he put himself back into the championship hunt with his first victory of the season. Oakley’s Costa Rican sensation Ernesto Fonseca did the “O” some justice as he held the flag up in the box with a respectable 3rd place. Tonight’s witnesses to the mayhem were a crowd of 52,022 at the Edward Jones Dome in frigid -14 degree St. Louis.
Oakley’s rising superstar Davi Millsaps won the opening round of the Eastern Region AMA Supercross Lites with a commanding performance. Davi rode a very smart race and showed signs of maturity in his second year of professional competition. “Unfortunately I wasn’t up front at the start, but I was able to get around traffic early,” said Millsaps. “I saw that the top guys were up front and I knew I had to pass them to get into the lead. It didn’t take me long to get used to my new bike and I guess I got it off to a good start.”
