Runner-up James Stewart was a ball of energy while collecting his 20 percent of the vote, cupping his ear to the crowd to pump his approval rating from the fans. After the contest, he even bowed down to Potter and gave the winner his jersey, the stakes agreed upon during some good natured trash talk before the event.

With its super short straights and amusement park-like corners, Martinsville is an old school anomaly and one that, far more than any other track on the Trans-American circuit, chews up and spits out brake parts. A full-on scratch and dent race 131.5 miles in length, Ricky Carmichael would be jamming the brake pedal into the aluminum floorboard of his Chevy well over 300 times throughout the course of the race. With boss and coach Kevin Harvick always in his ear, RC was certainly cognizant of not only his brakes, but of the other 35 trucks that would be leaving streaks of rubber and big gouges all over his #4 Oakley Chevrolet. However when all was said and done and his truck looking like a torn-up tuna fish can covered in melted Good Year rubber, Carmichael hung tough and finished a respectable 29th.

After stopping the clocks with a qualifying time of 20.710 at 91.434 miles per hour, Ricky Carmichael was slotted in at spot number 29 on the starting grid for the Kroger 250. A 250-lap, 131.5-mile race on the 0.526-mile oval known as Martinsville Speedway, the paperclip shaped track marked not only marked the fourth race of rookie Ricky Carmichael’s still very young NASCAR, but also his first on an elite short track. Today’s race was scheduled to go green at 2:00 P.M. (EST), however the rain gods were did cooperate in dreary Virginia, a steady light rain soaking the track and keeping Carmichael seated inside his #4 Oakley/KHI All-Stars Chevrolet Silverado. With all kinds of crazy colors showing precipitation in various forms all over the local weather radar screen, at Noon, NASCAR decided to call the race. The Kroger 250 has now been postponed to 12 Noon (EST) on Monday, March 30, 2009.
