Oakley's Willow Koerber Takes The Cross Country Leader's Jersey In Belgium

World Cup Houffalize

Oakley’s Willow Koerber took the Cross Country leader’s jersey and earned Silver in the World Cup in Houffalize, Belgium last weekend. She is the first American woman to grab the World Cup leader’s jersey since Alison Dunlap in 2002.

The women’s 26-kilometer race started with the eventual winner, Eva Lechner, and Koerber quickly taking the lead. Lechner fell off the pace mid-race with a flat tire, but quickly rejoined the leaders.

On the last lap, Koerber touched wheels with Lechner and had to stop and put her foot down, allowing Lechner to open a gap she held to the finish line.

After taking the leader’s jersey Koerber said, “I also know that I was hunting out there, and it was fun.  I was paying attention to how everyone was riding.  Pushing at times, following at times, looking back at times, being smart. I am so excited to have the leader’s jersey and so motivated to really seal the deal.”
