Q&A
- If I had a younger brother, one piece of life advice I would give him is: Figure out what you think would be the best job in the world, and then do all you can to make it happen.
- What's your favorite number and why: ? 27, my roulette number. Try it out. Next time you walk into a casino go straight to a roulette table and put your money on 27…. A mate told me about this gambling secret, it’s worked loads of times.
- Who makes you laugh? Nathan Rennie, he has got to be the greatest story teller…… He just needs to work on the intros, some how they always start with, “This one time we had a couple beersâ€.
- Favorite Oakley products and how they help you? The O-Frame Goggles….in Downhill you need to have perfect view of the rocks, roots and obstacles that are coming at you at high speed, and often times in dodgy lighting, so my O-Frames and the range of lenses available mean that vision is the least of my worries.
- What's it mean to you to be riding for Oakley? Oakley and me have been together since I started my career. There is a sense of family and loyalty that has always been with me. Apart from the product which is obviously the best for my sport, I know I can always count on Oakley’s support of what I do.
- Can you call out a single career highlight and why? Winning the World Championship. It was a huge honor to become the first African cyclist of any discipline or age group to ever win a world title for our continent.
- Confidence is: Mind over mind.
- Favorite discipline? Downhill
- Biggest obstacle you have had to overcome? Last season, my shoulder use to dislocate really easily. I had to get through the season before I could get it operated on.
- Where are you going to ride and train this year?: South Africa, USA, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Scotland, England, Italy, Austria, Canada, Andorra, Montenegro, Australia, Germany, France.
- Techno or Metal? Metal
- Up or Down? Depends the time of day, usually down.
- Favorite Breakfast? Full English
- Strengths? Consistency, Jumping.
- How did you get into mountain bike riding? My parents bought a bicycle shop when I was younger. I raced motocross for quite some time before that and since they bought the shop, they never had time to take me riding or to races. So I got involved in mountain bike riding and started riding by myself and enjoyed it. I started racing and did okay in it, so I continued on.
- What are your goals for the rest of 2009? My goals are to win the World Cup and World Championship. I'm lying 2nd in the World Cup and I have one more race to try and make that goal a reality. And World Champs are coming up in two weeks. We've been training pretty hard at the Oakley track so hopefully in two weeks time it will pay off.
