Bio
Alison Dunlap is a retired professional cyclist, two-time Olympian, former World Champion, and former National Champion. After eighteen years of competing she retired in 2005 to work full time at her newest endeavor, the Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps.
From a kid with a training wheel-equipped, royal blue, banana seat bicycle, to becoming one of the elite among the cycling world, Alison Dunlap has never ignored her dad’s advice when he told her “don’t stop pedaling!”
Alison Dunlap has always maintained an intense interest in sports. Her early involvement with soccer in her freshmen year at Colorado College left her looking into other options when she became the last team player cut from the Division 1 powerhouse. A life-long interest in cycling resulted in her becoming the only female member of the school cycling club. The die was forever cast when she became the woman’s national road racing collegiate champion her senior year.
Five years later found her at the 1996 Olympic Games in the women’s road race where she finished a disappointing 37th in Atlanta. Her contemplation of retirement was short-lived, however, as she began to seriously consider the possibility of switching sports, sort of. It was when she began dating professional mountain biker Greg Frozley (now her husband) that she realized her untapped potential as a mountain biker.
In 1997, in only her 4th world cup, she stunned everyone by winning the race in Budapest, Hungary. She went on to be the top U.S. finisher in the World Championships, finishing 7th. In 1999, Alison won a gold medal at the Pan-Am Games and became the U.S. National Champion. Her career was highlighted with a stunning victory at the 2001 World Championships in Vail, CO and the World Cup Overall title she won in 2002.
Currently, Alison is preparing for a chance to race cyclocross for the LUNA Team in the fall of 2009
