• Downhill Mountain Bike Star Rachel Atherton Takes Val Di Sole By Storm

    The downhill mountain bike circuit has been without one of its most prominent figures for most of the past two seasons. Rachel Atherton (GT Factory Racing) had been nursing a shoulder injury for much of that time, but this weekend at the second round of the Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, she proved she is back and that she means business. The twenty-four year-old dominated the rough, technical course, finishing 4.485 seconds faster than any other woman on the course.

    Oakley’s 2008 World Champion Gee Atherton, wearing Crowbar, won on home soil last weekend at the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World in Fort William, Scotland. Oakley’s World Cup and World Champion Jared Graves, wearing Mayhem, powered to victory in the 4 cross. Oakley’s South African Greg Minnaar finished 1.21 seconds behind Gee in downhill and placed third. Minnaar continues to lead the downhill men’s series. Oakley’s Rachel Atherton, wearing the O Frame, took second in women downhill, missing first by just over a second.

    Oakley’s Greg Minnaar and Rachel Atherton won the first stop of the UCI World Cup series in Maribor, Slovenia last weekend. Oakley’s Gee Atherton finished two-tenths of a second behind Minnaar and placed second.
