Legendary Company: James Stewart Dazzles in Toronto, Passes Ricky Carmichael for Second All-Time
There’s no doubting James Stewart’s immense impact on the sport of motocross.
With his fourth season Supercross victory in Toronto, the long-time Oakley rider moved his way even further toward ‘Legend’ status – passing Ricky Carmichael for second all-time in career triumphs with 49 overall.
The performance was yet another display of his new and more strategic, matured style that has carried him into Championship contention.
It was nothing short of dramatic. Following a rough start that had Bubba back in the pack, he sliced his way through, passing rider after rider until finally charging past Justin Barcia with five laps remaining. It was quite simply one of the most impressive racing displays ever seen in Supercross.
“That was probably one of my best races ever, I’m speechless,” Bubba said. “I’m so happy. To break Ricky’s [Carmichael] record and to do it like that. Man, that says a lot.”
But the streak didn’t stop there. He followed it up with a triumph in St. Louis the following week to claim his 50th overall win and fifth on the season.
“This is a special night for me. This year I have been having a lot of fun winning races. Tonight was a great race for me. I was able to make the pass and ride to my 50th win. That is huge for me. I never thought I would win 50 of these races.”
