The Countdown: NHRA Charger Jeg Coughlin Jr. Claims 55th Career Pro Stock Victory in Concord, Shoots Into Pro Stock Title Contention
When you’ve dominated 98 national NHRA events over the course of a storied career, winning becomes an expected result.
But for Jeg Coughlin Jr., who instantaneously was catapulted into contention for his fifth Pro Stock Championship with his victory at Concord, every win is crucial…and appreciated.
“Being the first round of the Countdown, to get a win was amazing,” said Jeg, following his 55th career Pro Stock triumph. "We had a fast car, kept lane choice all the way through the final until Jason outran us. Fortunately, we were able to get a little head start. I was able to get him on the Tree a bit and pull off this huge, huge win.”
With a holeshot advantage over Jason Line in the final round, complete with a 6.583 pass at 210.05 mph, the Mopar Pro driver effectively moved into second place in the points standings – and a mere 10 behind current leader Mike Edwards.
“With five races remaining now in the Countdown, every point counts,” he continued. “We are looking at every point we can get. It’s game time. This is the Countdown. This is the excitement of Mello Yello Drag Racing.”
