Battling On: Fernando Alonso Continues Campaign for Formula 1 Supremacy, Smokes Field at Shanghai

Fernando Alonso’s form is putting just about everyone on notice.

Oakley’s former Formula 1 Champion, flying high with a competitive Ferrari F138 car, is in the thick of the battle for the top of the field – making his presence felt with a recent triumph in Shanghai.

It almost looked too easy, actually.

Claiming Scuderia Ferrari’s first victory on the season in China, Fernando smoked the field by more than 10 seconds – with fellow Oakley driver Kimi Raikkonen grabbing second.

But the success didn’t come easily. Nor did Fernando take it for granted. Bad luck came just one stop prior in Southeast Asia.

“It felt good,” Fernando said in Shanhai. “It has been a long time since my last victory here eight years ago. It was a nearly perfect race for us, it was clean and good. The team did a perfect job. They executed the pit stops perfectly, after the disappointment in Malaysia. It is a positive start to this championship.”

The result was so astounding that his team sent words of caution in the closing stages of the race when it was all but won – noting that he ‘shouldn’t push too hard.’

His reply: He wasn’t.

The Spaniard claimed glory while retaining some “pace in the pocket” – sending chills down the spines of his fellow F1 combatants.

And despite a recent set back with waves of bad luck in Bahrain (with a DRS [Drag Resistance System] overtaking aid failure on the car) – where he clearly was in prime position to bag another triumph – it’s safe to say that both Fernando and the Ferrari crew are keeping calm and looking forward to slamming back on track through the next stop.

Keep and eye on Fernando as he looks to right the ship in a few weeks!
