Rally Legend: WRC Superstar Sebastien Loeb Graces X Games, Easily Claims RallyCross Victory
Most X Games fans in the United States more than likely weren’t familiar with Sebastien Loeb.
Little did they know – especially due to a lack of publicity by the Games – that a Global World Rally Car Championship (WRC) Superstar and Legend was in their midst.
Oakley’s eight-time WRC Champion, famous worldwide as an absolute Rally Car Icon in the actual global circuit, made his first-ever appearance in the United States. And as expected, he absolutely punished the field of X Games drivers – lined with crossover riders – displaying the skills of a true international Rally champion. In other words, he was simply next level on his way to an easy Gold.
“The X Games was a good experience, the track was good and I was excited to race at the X Games and win this competition,” said Loeb. “The most difficult point was that first corner because you lose everything if someone hits you.”
The six lap final smashed into action with Sebastien screaming out of the gates in his Citroen car like a bat out of Hell. He never looked back – pulling away as a pile of collisions further allowed him to charge his way to victory. Ken Block and Brian Deegan rounded out the podium.
The easy outing topped off a dramatic day that saw Travis Pastrana crash in his heat race. Oakley off road racing star, Bryce Menzies, who was invited by Pastrana to race in the Rally Cross event a mere week before, also crashed out and didn’t reach the Final.
