Five! Ryan Villopoto Blazes His Way to Victory at Supercross-Indianapolis, Extends Standings Lead
The racing in Supercross this year has been flat out insane.
With Bubba Stewart’s super gnarly crash in Daytona a couple of weeks ago clearing the way for O Star Ryan Villopoto to snatch the victory, one thing was on everyone’s mind coming into Indianapolis this past weekend. How would two of the top O riders respond?
They did what Champions do. Charge even harder. Just ask Villopoto, who plowed his way to his fifth victory this season – extending his commanding lead in the Championship Standings.
Rival Chad Reed grabbed the holeshot out of the gates – but Ryan would have none of it, as he forcefully overtook the lead before the first lap ended. And he never looked back.
But as usual, he wasn’t the only Oakley rider challenging at the front of the pack.
Right on Reed’s tail in the third position was the Big O’s defending Supercross champ Ryan Dungey. But an unfortunate bump into Reed’s back wheel at the midpoint of the race sent Ryan to the dirt – allowing Bubba to power through into the third position after cutting and clawing to the front from the middle of the pack.
Fast forward a couple of laps and Bubba smelled the blood in the water. He powered past Reed for the second spot as the Aussie struggled to hold off Dungey all the way to the end.
At the checkered flag, two Oakley riders emerged from the field on top – adding valuable points to their Championship standings (Villopoto in the lead with Bubba close behind) and extending their dominance.
Congratulations to RV and Bubba for the awesome finish. The battle for the Title continues in full gear!
