Pretty in Pink: Bubba Stewart Claims Third Supercross Victory at Anaheim II – Breast Cancer Awareness Round

If you’re gonna’ dominate, you might as well do it in style…with a cause.

Raging into Anaheim for the fifth Supercross stop of the season, Oakley MX superstar James “Bubba” Stewart, fresh on the heels of a big victory in Oakland, snagged his third triumph in a stylin’ pink suit reflecting the sport’s annual breast cancer awareness round.

Rumors of a “no go” swirled around the arena earlier in the day, as Bubba opted to skip the final practice of the afternoon. But any doubt about Bubba’s readiness for the night was detonated instantaneously with his domination of his Supercross class heat.

Flashing forward to the Main Event, and Bubba smashed out of the gates on fire – grabbing the holeshot and never looking back. Close on his tail was fellow Oakley star Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed challenging. And it was pretty much a done deal from there.

The top three ran away early. But intense action definitely went down in the back in the field, including Oakley’s Ryan Dungey climbing back from a bad start from the middle of the pack. A derailed chain before the halfway point caused a DNF, however, making for a big blow to Ryan’s chances for a repeat Supercross title.

When the checkered flags flew and the flames levitated it was Bubba emerging with the win with Villopoto finishing as the runner up – a reflection of the intense battle for the top of the standings with the two O riders comfortably out in front.

Bubba now powers to a five-point standings advantage over Villopoto – setting the stage for even more intense showdowns at the coming stops.

Congrats to Bubba and RV for the solid race in Anaheim!
