Ryan Villopoto is the third person in history to win his first premier class race and the only other person besides Carmichael to claim three-straight 250 motocross titles and then win his 450-class debut. His first championship came outdoors in 2006 following a third place in the Western SX Lites series.     Being thrown into the fire with the ‘Big Boys’ after riding high with an Indy Lights title at age 20 isn’t easy. But after taking his lumps, Josef Newgarden has finally broken through. The young racer, who’s been facing a less-than-ideal season with his Sarah Fisher Hartman crew, clawed his way to his first IndyCar podium finish in Baltimore this past Saturday – emphatically grabbing second place following a grueling battle. Smashing through extreme heat, six extended caution periods and multiple crashes, the young phenom found glory despite the extreme challenges before him. Starting in fifth, Josef fell back as far as 19th before powering his way forward through the field.

    Ryan Villopoto dominating Motocross races: It’s becoming all too much like clockwork. The three-time defending Supercross Champion stuck another feather in his Championship cap after sweeping both Motos at the Utah National on Aug. 17 – claiming his second Outdoors crown and even more accolades before the season even ended. High-fiving hordes of admiring fans after his season triumph was secured, the legend-in-the-making celebrated his eighth overall AMA Championship – tying him for second all-time with Jeremy McGrath. The feat places him 15 titles behind fellow Oakley MX superstar, Ricky Carmichael.

But to have one with such a sense of humility as he charges into the annals of Motocross history…is all the more impressive. “It is an amazing feeling, but maybe only when I’m older I’ll realize what I have accomplished,” said Jeffrey Herlings – shortly after wrapping up his 14th World Motocross Grand Prix victory on the season and his second consecutive MX2 World Title. At a mere 18 years old, Oakley’s Dutch rider has tallied an astonishing 30th career GP victory on top of his taking the MX2 crown with three races to go. Not to mention his perfect record through all rounds thus far.
