Motor Sports

Marc Marquez is on a tear through the MotoGP world. The young Spanish sensation has already stamped his name in the history books in his rookie MotoGP premier class campaign, becoming the youngest ever MotoGP pole sitter, youngest winner of the Grand Prix of the Americas and the youngest ever world champion. Arriving onto the international scene with a pair of World Championship titles under his belt (125cc in 2010 and Moto2 in 2011), Marquez was an established presence before his blistering rookie and sophomore campaigns had even begun. The defending AMA Motocross Champion is looking to take the reigns. With a lukewarm start to the Outdoor season thus far, Ryan Dungey hasn’t broken through the proverbial barrier on his campaign to defend the title. Until now, that is. More than 20,000 fans braved the Tennessee heat to see Red Bull-KTM’s star take the overall victory at Muddy Creek – topping fellow Oakley star Ryan Villopoto with an impressive win in the second Moto.

“Smoke” hasn’t exactly had a magical start to the season. The three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion – and his team – sputtered out of the gates this year with a mere two top ten finishes, a season-best seventh place result and no win since Daytona last July. This past weekend, however, Dover shattered that storyline. Powering past fellow Oakley driver Juan Pablo Montoya with three laps to go, Tony Stewart blazed his way to a glorious victory and effectively snapped his 30-race winless streak.

  • Charging On: Jeffrey Herlings Continues Tear Through World Championship Motocross Circuit, Caps off 13 Moto Win Streak

Jeffrey Herlings’ perfect season may have ‘ended.’ But there’s still nothing on the planet of 250 dirt bikes that is even close to stopping him. The young Dutchman phenom’s epic 13 straight Moto victories came to a halt with a crash in the Super Final at the Grand Prix of Brazil last week – but his characteristically dominating performance in Moto 1 still guaranteed an overall victory at the stop. Which means, of course, that Oakley’s speed demon still holds a massive 100 point lead in the 250 class standings. The resilient display in South America came on the heels of a purely dominating weekend in Portugal the week prior – smoking the Free Practice, qualifiers, Moto 1 (with the Holeshot and lapping the 10th position rider) and Moto 2 (Holeshot, fastest lap time, 1:08:304 faster than the second place rider, lapped the entire field until the eighth position rider) en route to six straight triumphs.
