It’s been a weekend of resurgence for Oakley’s four-wheel motorsports team –and Jamie McMurray’s wide smile painted that picture perfectly at NASCAR’s mecca. Oakley’s star driver ended an extended victory drought with a smooth triumph at Talladega this past weekend, picking up his first ‘W’ since Oct. 2010. Smashing through an abnormally mellow speedway – devoid of its usual massive crashes, scrambling and head-to-head battles throughout – Jamie skated through the final 15 laps with no incident to spoil his return to victory lane.
Scott Dixon is most definitely back. Oakley’s long-time IndyCar driver returned to former glory after claiming his third title at Fontana to wrap up a dazzling season. With past series crowns in 2003 and 2008 in the bag, a small drought screeched to a halt with a string of consistent results in 2013. “Once it’s all said and done and I’m done with racing and I can look back and say, Hey, I achieved this,’” Scott said following his fifth place finish at Auto Club Speedway to wrap up the year. “That will be the time for that. Right now, I love racing. I just want to race. … I’m not really a person that (dwells on accomplishments).” But, as always, getting through to the end of the heated 250-lap grind in one piece was no walk in the park.
