Slick Six: Motocross Star Ryan Villopoto Nabs Supercross Indianapolis Victory, Davi Millsaps Claims Third

It was the slickest, most challenging course this year.

But the slippery conditions and resulting strange turn of events weren’t enough to keep defending Oakley Supercross Champ, Ryan Villopoto (RV), from victory in Indianapolis – clipping Justin Brayton for the win, while fellow O charger Davi Millsaps rounded out the podium in third.

“This was by far the hardest track of the season,” RV said, rocking his Oakley Signature Series MX Goggles. “It was slick out there, and I had to be on my game. It was tough to make passes on this track.”

And the track definitely claimed its victims early on.

O Superstar James “Bubba” Stewart, who triumphed the week before, uncharacteristically didn’t qualify for the Main Event following a crash in his heat race.

The course carnage throughout the night sent shock waves throughout the stadium…but the rest of the field charged on.

It was Mike Alessi who’d grab the holeshot, with RV in the middle of the front half of the pack – rapidly smashing his way up to fifth following the first lap.

And despite serious challenges in conditions, RV powered his way past Bret Metcalfe in Lap 11 – then made his ultimate move on Lap 16 to pass up Brayton for the lead.

It was all defense from there – as RV clawed his way to the checkered flag for his sixth victory on the season.

The impressive outing extended his already commanding lead to 54 points – with RV looking to seal the deal sooner than later.
