O Sweep! Ryan Villopoto Claims Victory at Supercross-Anaheim 1, Dungey and Bubba Stewart Round Out Podium

It was a perfect sweep.

O charger Ryan Villopoto smashed his way to a resounding victory at Supercross-Anaheim 1, dazzling a supercharged sold-out crowd of more than 45,000 amped up motocross fans. The Oakley Team Star, rebounding from a season-ending injury last season, topped the Oakley-laced podium with Ryan Dungey (2nd) and James “Bubba” Stewart (3rd) rounding out the winners’ circle. It was a super perfect start to the Supercross season for the Big O…in a year that’s set to be one of the most intensely contested and exciting battles in the sport’s history.

The second 450 heat of the night saw Bubba dominate the competition, overtaking Villopoto for an impressive showing and a strong signal of his returning prominence on the dirt after an injury threw him onto the sidelines last season.

But a bad start by Bubba in the 450 Main Event set the stage for a different look in the battle for the top. Dungey came out of the gates on fire, literally. But after the first turn, Ivan Tedesco sped to the front – closely tailed by Villopoto. That didn’t last long, as lap Three came with Oakley thunder.

Villopoto charged his way past Tedesco and the field – and built an impressive cushion/lead between himself and his closest challenger, Dungey, for the rest of the race. And he kept on rippin’, never looking back and smoking the deep and talented field the rest of the way through to victory.

But the storylines of the electric evening weren’t limited to the front of the pack. Bubba’s bad start pushed him all the way back to the 12th position in the first lap. Displaying his immense speed and skill, he masterfully sliced through to the front – taking ninth on lap two – and pushing forward to seventh by lap four.

Trey Canard was his final victim of the evening, as Bubba powered past him to the third spot in lap 13…a spot he kept until the very end. And with that, the former Supercross champ sealed the deal in rounding out the podium and rolling back into the spotlight.

All in all, one amazing event and an immensely strong start for Oakley’s biggest Motocross Stars! A huge congrats to Villopoto, Dungey and Bubba for a solid race.
