Back in the Game: Motocross Superstar James “Bubba” Stewart Tops Supercross Oakland

James “Bubba” Stewart has had a tumultuous past couple years.

Oakley’s Motocross Superstar and former Supercross/AMA Motocross Champion, fighting through injuries in 2010 and an erratic 2011, shot back at doubters yet again – claiming Supercross Oakland for his first triumph with his new team, Joe Gibbs Racing.

Joining fellow Oakley Team stars Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey, who both have tallied a win thus far early in the season, Bubba sent a clear message that he’s in it to win it this season.

Rival Chad Reed held the advantage early on in the race. Until Lap 9, that is. In signature fashion, he powered past Reed and charged his way to victory with no one in sight.

“I got in a rhythm out there tonight and put together a great race,” Bubba said, dedicating the win to his mechanic, Mark “Tex” Adams, who passed away earlier in the week. “I had a tough couple of races this year, and tonight I got it done.”

The Oakland result pushed Ryan Dungey into a tie for first place at 85 points in the overall Supercross Championship Standings.

In the Lites Class, O ripper Eli Tomac grabbed some glory of his own, becoming the first rider in the series to repeat wins in 2012.

Smashing out of the gates on fire, Eli established his dominance throughout the race to take the win ahead of Dean Wilson – extending his lead over him in the standings to 15 points.
