Oakley superstar James (Bubba) Stewart picked up a thrilling victory before a sold-out crowd of 45,050 at the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.

Non Oakley athlete Chad Reed snagged the Holeshot when the gate dropped for the start of the 20-lap main event in the AMA Supercross class but was under immediate pressure from the two Oakley athletes.

James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael.
With the top three contenders out front, the table was set for another epic battle that we have grown to love. At the end of the first lap, Stewart made an easy pass to claim the lead, as Carmichael began working on Reed for second. Not one lap had passed before RC made his move on the Yamaha rider sending the non Oakley athlete to the back of the bus. While RC and Reed where dancing with each other Bubba put the hammer down and began to gap his competitors before a crash on the finish line jump handed RC the lead. RC held off Stewart for a couple of laps until Stewart made the pass for the lead on lap seven. Carmichael stayed close for a couple of laps but a crash on lap 13 would end his hopes of a win. Stewart held on for the victory, his 13th career AMA Supercross win. Carmichael was able to regroup and finished second.

“I went home, put my head down and put in some hard work,” said Stewart in reference to the four-week break for the holidays. “I was lucky enough that those guys saw me when I went down. I had a couple of burns and scrapes on my arm but was able to get back up and get the win.”

This race was the last one for Ricky Carmichael here at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. Ricky announced his semi retirement in the two wheel sport of Supercross to pursue his four wheel car racing career. RC will not race again in Anaheim but will be in action at six more rounds (Phoenix, San Francisco, St. Louis, Atlanta, Daytona, and Orlando).
