Oakley Star Keeps On Winning

Oakley’s Ricky Carmichael takes the win at the Georgia Dome before a crowd of 70,133, a record attendance for supercross in the 28 years of racing in Georgia.

Chad Reed got the holeshot and settled into the lead as Oakley’s Carmichael began working his way through the pack after a seventh place start. Oakley’s James Stewart went down in a first-turn crash that ultimately cost him a shot at the win.

With Reed out front, Oakley’s RC began to make his move. At the half way point he had closed to within a couple bike lengths. On lap 11, RC made his move to the inside of Reed in a turn to take the lead. Reed could not get back close enough to make a move on the Oakley star as Carmichael cruised to the victory. Reed finished in second and Stewart was third. "( Chad) hounded me for while out there and I was just sticking to my lines," said Carmichael, referring to the latter part of the race. "As the track wore out it just got harder and I knew that it would be harder for Chad to get by me. We got our back against the wall and I’m going to try to win every race from here on out."

In the Lites division, Josh Grant grabbed the holeshot and was leading the main event until lap five when Team Oakley’s Davi Millsaps passed Grant to take the lead. Grant hung tight to Millsaps and retook the lead when Millsaps spun out and went down in a turn.

Davi Millsaps rebounded from his misfortunes and started mounting a come from behind charge that found the young superstar all the way back up to the second spot when the checkers flew.

Millsaps continues to lead the series standings with 47 points, followed by Jesseman with 38 and Monster/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Chris Gosselaar, who finished ninth tonight, in third overall with 34 points.
