Oakley Dominates On The Track And On The Grounds
Laguna Seca Raceway plays host every year to one of the most physical and challenging MotoGP courses in stop number eleven on the world-class tour. This year would be no different. Oakley once again had a tremendous presence, one upping last years by bringing in two Rolling O Lab trucks.
“How does Oakley follow up such a successful 2007 presence at Laguna Seca, one may ask?” said Rolling O Lab Manager, Ryan Evert. “We roll into the track with double the presence! Having two trucks at race this year, with one in the exclusive Paddock area and the other on Ducati Island, this was a first for our brand. In the end it was really amazing to see such an effective branding presence at two of the major locations for an event this size.”
Thursday the Paddock area played host to Nicky Hayden’s Media Event. On Friday through Sunday the Rolling O Lab on Ducati Island pushed through hundreds of Oakley fans to witness our superior eyewear, along with the Ducati Hotties Fashion Show. The Paddock area saw exclusive visitors ranging from Oakley’s very own Kelley James (musician) to the CEO of Dorna (MotoGP) Carmelo Espeleta. All were very impressed with the layout, tours and products – with the most talked about item being the Nicky Hayden Oil Rig Sunglass.
As for the racing Oakley could not have been better represented with a stacked field of eyewear athletes competing in MotoGP and AMA. Casey Stoner had set the track lap record last year and would break that mark five more times in his practice laps Friday and Saturday. It’s no doubt Stoner is an absolute stud when it comes to hammering his Ducati around any track in MotoGP.
“The week of racing was great for the Oakley pilots,” said Anthony Paggio, Oakley 2-Wheel Motor Sports Marketing Manager. “Casey Stoner bested the Oakley crew with a battle of the greats as he and the legendary Rossi fought tooth and nail for almost the entire race, including seven lead changes. Casey made the pass for the lead spot mid-way through the race, but couldn’t get the bike slowed and ran out of track ending his chances for a repeat win at Laguna Seca.”
“Including Stoner’s second place finish, Oakley had eight of the top ten racers in the MotoGP race, not a bad day’s work for the brand.”
“Additionally, it was also a great day and respectable finishes for Oakley’s Ben Spies and Jamie Hacking who are both racing the American AMA Superbike tour full-time. But were given the chance of a life-time to compete in this weekend’s MotoGP race and see how they could do against the fastest boys in the world. Ben finished in 8th place while Jamie ended up 11th.”
