Marc Marquez Wins Seventh Straight at Catalonia Grand Prix; Rossi Runner-Up

After a four-way battle for the lead that lasted up until the very last turns of the Catalonia Grand Prix, Marc Marquez emerged with his seventh straight MotoGP win of the season.

The defending champion overtook Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo with three laps to go before surviving a near collision with Dani Pedrosa on the last lap of the race.

“Of course today was more difficult than Mugello, as the Yamaha riders were very strong early in the race,” Marquez said. "I made a mistake in turn one and after that I lost maybe a second and I was having to catch Vale again. The last laps were so nice, the fans helped a lot. It was really special to fight the last laps with Dani and Valentino.

“I said it was all or nothing and I risked 100 percent,‘’ Marquez continued. "We gave [the crowd] a good show.’’

Marquez increased his season points total to 175. With his runner-up finish, Rossi remained second with 117 points. The result was Rossi’s fifth podium of the year.

“I think that it was my best race of the season, I enjoyed it a lot. I am very satisfied with the result,” Rossi said. "I made a good lap in qualifying despite not feeling confident. We modified the bike with the team and I had a lot more front feeling, I was stronger and faster. I felt good coming into the race.

“I pushed at the start,” he continued. "The temperature was better for us, if it was hotter we could not have fought for the victory. I started to taste the victory some laps from the end, but then Marc overtook me and then Dani overtook me so I lost a bit. It was impossible to come back.”
