Oakley's Jorge Lorenzo Tightens Grip On World MotoGP Title With Second Place Finish

Oakley’s Jorge Lorenzo won a hard-earned second place and extended his lead on the World MotoGP title chase last weekend at the fourth round at Mugello.

Dani Pedrosa won and led throughout. Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso had a close battle until the fifth lap when Lorenzo moved into second place. Lorenzo held that position until the end and Dovizioso finished third.

With his second place finish, Lorenzo increases his lead to 90-65 over Pedrosa in the standings. He also set a new lap record of 1min 49.531 seconds – half a second faster than Stoner’s previous best mark set in 2008.

Lorenzo stated, ““It was a tough race for me. I struggled as the tyres were not working well and Dani was very fast. However, second place and the 20 points are very good for me in the championship.”

Lorenzo wore a Rossi T-shirt on the winners’ podium in tribute to his team-mate whose season was all-but finished when he broke his right leg in a crash in practice on Saturday.
