The final race of the women’s laser radial event went down on a particularly windy day on the Nothe Course in Weymouth, London.

In the laser radial event, women man a small single person sailboat and points are assessed based on time and various penalties; the aim is to garner the lowest score.

This particular race would prove to be adrenaline pumping for the sailors and the spectators alike. Xu Lijia, World Champion silver medalist, led the pack all the way through to a tight finish in which she would ultimately come out on top.

Challenging the Chinese sailor for the top spot was 2011 World Champion Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands. Both teams fought hard in the choppy waters battling each other as much as the elements. While Evi Van Acker of Belgium fought successfully to maintain the final podium position after winning two firsts to establish a strong position heading into the final.

Congrats to all the laser radial sailors on a well fought race!
