Nicknamed “Six Feet of Sunshine,” Kerri Walsh and teammate, Misty May-Treanor have been called “the greatest beach volleyball team of all time.” Along with partner Misty, Kerri had one of the longest and most impressive winning streaks in professional sports after winning 89 straight matches on the AVP Tour as well as the international circuit between 2003 and 2004. In 2007 her 20 wins (domestic and international combined) tied her with Misty for the most wins in a single season.     American Allison Jones is no stranger to the pressure of competition at he Games. In her sixth career appearance on the grandest scale in sports, Jones secured the first podium position for the United States in London with her third place finish in the women’s 3000m C1-C3 Pursuit event in the London Velodrome. She defeated German’s Denise Schindler with a time of 4:27.793 in the third place race. This was the sixth podium finish of her career with two first place finishes, three second place finishes and her most recent third place achievement.

    The Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Kulhavy was far from the favorite in the men’s mountain bike competition this year in London. The world champion had yet to collect a world cup win during the season. He entered the race in England quiet and poised to surprise the world-class field. He did just that, sprinting to the victory during the final 200 meters, beating out Switzerland’s Nino Schurter for the top prize, by just one second. Almost as remarkable was the third place ride by Italy’s Marco Aurelio Fontana. Fontana lost his seat and seat post during the final lap of the course and finished just 25 seconds behind the second place finisher, with nothing to sit on.

    Looking back on three weeks in London for the 2012 Summer Games. There were heroic feats of athleticism, intimate moments of personal triumph, contagious kinetic energy throughout the entire city of London and a family of Oakley athletes with whom all those who worked in the Oakley Safehouse were privileged to meet and support.
