The Czech Republic’s Mirka Knapkova entered the Women’s Single Sculls competition in London as the World Champion and she proved from the get-go why she deserves that title. The female rowing sensation rowed the quickest time in qualifying and utterly dominated the field in the finals. In the final race, Knapkova jumped out to an early lead of one half-length after 500m. Halfway through the row, the Czech had extended that lead to a full boat length. As she neared the finish line, it was apparent that she had the top position in the bag. She eased up, gliding to a comfortable 3-second victory.
