Spain’s Javier Gomez Noya is a triathlon force to be reckoned with. He proved so by his lack of time off between wins from one season to the next. Capping off his 2012 season with wins in the ITU Grand Final in Auckland and X-Terra World Championships in Maui, Hawaii, Gomez Noya began his 2013 season in similar fashion. The 2012 London Olympic silver medalist won the 2013 Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco, CA by over a minute.

Javier Gomez Noya has been on a roll throughout the 2012 season. A roll so dominant, not even a tsunami warning could slow him down. A tsunami warning was issued for the entire island of Maui late Saturday night, but it was canceled early Sunday morning. Gomez Noya racked up yet another win this weekend at the XTERRA World Championships at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on the island of Maui. The event featured a 1.5km swim, a 30km mountain bike ride and a 10km trail run. His winning time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, 54 seconds was extra impressive being that it was Gomez Noya’s first appearance at the race. On the women’s side, Lesley Paterson defended her 2011 XTERRA title finishing in a winning time of 2:44:12.

It’s been quite the year for both Sweden’s Lisa Norden and Spain’s Javier Gomez Noya. That year was going to come to an end one way or the other in Auckland, NZ this past weekend. Leave it up to the two London Olympic silver medalists to cap off two already outstanding seasons with impressive performances at the ITU Grand Final. Gomez Noya won the final race in the ITU World Triathlon Series on Sunday, beating out runner-up Jonathan Brownlee in a dramatic run through downtown Auckland. Gomez Noya’s winning effort landed him in second place the overall season standings. While Norden wound up finishing fourth on the day in New Zealand, it was all she needed to claim her first elite world championship title.
